AI Impact Summit 2026: Experts Highlight Pathways to Scale Women’s Access and Opportunity Through AI

The session, titled “Leveraging AI for Women,” brought together leading voices in technology and gender inclusion. Dr. Bhavani Rao, UNESCO Chair for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment and Dean of the Amrita School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, joined Shreya Krishnan of AnitaB.org for the panel discussion, which was moderated by Swati Goyal of Deloitte. The speakers collectively stressed that meaningful inclusion cannot be treated as an afterthought in AI development. Instead, they emphasized that equity must be intentionally embedded into AI systems from the very beginning — particularly to ensure that rural and underrepresented communities are not excluded from emerging digital opportunities. Dr. Rao underscored the importance of building AI ecosystems that go beyond technical innovation to address structural barriers faced by women. Panelists highlighted several key enablers for scaling impact, including widespread AI literacy initiatives, strong ethical and governance frameworks, participatory co-design approaches, and sustained cross-sector collaboration among academia, industry, government, and civil society. The discussion reinforced a growing global consensus: when thoughtfully designed and responsibly deployed, AI has the potential to become a powerful accelerator for women’s economic participation and leadership. However, realizing this promise will require intentional design, inclusive policies, and continued investment in community-centred capacity…

Dr. Bhavani Rao Calls for Ethical, Inclusive AI at India AI Impact Summit 2026

Dr. Rao participated in the panel discussion titled “Data, People, and Pre-Empting Mass Exclusion: Building Ethical AI as Digital Public Infrastructure.” The session was co-organized by Globethics and AI Safety Connect in collaboration with the Women for Ethical AI South Asia Chapter, bringing together global experts to explore the risks of algorithmic exclusion and pathways toward responsible AI systems. The panel examined how algorithm-driven technologies, when poorly designed or insufficiently governed, can unintentionally exclude vulnerable communities from essential services such as welfare, healthcare, education, finance, and governance. Speakers emphasized the importance of building AI systems that are accountable, transparent, and rooted in community needs. During her remarks, Dr. Rao highlighted that the origins of AI bias ultimately stem from human bias, stressing that ethical frameworks and value-driven design must be embedded at the earliest stages of AI development. She called for interdisciplinary collaboration and stronger governance mechanisms to ensure that digital public infrastructure remains inclusive and equitable. The summit also marked the official release of the Women for Ethical AI South Asia Impact & Activities Report 2025, which showcases the network’s growing regional efforts to advance gender-responsive and inclusive AI governance across South Asia. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham recently joined an International Consortium and won a grant for the project titled,‘Landslide Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment, Preparedness and Early Warning in South Asia: Integrating Meteorology, Landscape and Society (LANDSLIP).’ The project is funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) and the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, under the Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience (SHEAR) programme. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham partnered with the British Geological Survey, King’s College London, MetOffice, National Research Council CNR – Italy, the Geological Survey of India, Newcastle University, Practical Action Consulting Ltd. and Practical Action Consulting, Nepal, for this project.  The project aims to contribute to better landslide multi-hazard risk assessment, early-warning, and working with communities for better preparedness, for hydrologically controlled landslide and landslide related hazards on a regional spatial scale and on a seasonal to daily temporal scale in India. The funding for the project will be until October 2020. The main objectives of LANDSLIP are: To enhance landslide related multi-hazard risk assessment and monitoring in India in two main study regions ( Nilgiris and Darjeeling/East Sikkim), with a focus on weather regimes, landslide domains and thresholds, societal factors and the interaction of ’cascading’ hazards. Regulation of Inflammation by Natural Product extracts: Role in osteoclastogenesis

Regulation of Inflammation by Natural Product extracts: Role in osteoclastogenesis

Inflammation is the body’s endeavor at self-defense, the intent being to eradicate harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens and begin the healing process.  It is one of the major steps in normal wound healing process with overlapping events such as formation of granulation tissue, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling. However, chronic inflammation can also lead to a host of diseases. Thus the inflammatory response plays a key role in both health protection and disease generation. Osteoclasts are the multinuclear cells specialized for bone resorption, playing a crucial role in bone remodeling. Osteoclasts have been known to differentiate from hematopoietic precursors of the monocyte/macrophage lineage in the presence of macrophage-colony stimulating factor (M-CSF or CSF-1) and receptor activator of ΝF-κΒ ligand (RANKL). Inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1) or tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), as well as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) have been reported to induce osteoclast formation indirectly by stimulating osteoblasts. Chronic inflammation can lead to an abnormal increase in osteoclastic bone resorption and excessive bone destruction as observed in osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and periodontal disease (PD) etc. The use of herbal or natural medicines for the management of diverse disorders has an extensive and widespread history. The present study is…

Life and living are not the same. For living, we may need a job, money, a home, a car and other creature comforts. However, these alone fail to make life complete. For that, we need love, compassion, tenderness — a heart that knows and responds to the pain of others. We need broadmindedness and maturity in thought and action.
