The beginnings of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, one of the top ranked deemed university, can be traced back to 1994 when a School of Engineering was established in an obscure village named Ettimadai, situated at the foothills of the Bouluvanpatty ranges of the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. During that time, there were 120 students and 13 faculty members. Today, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has expanded to five campuses located in three different states of India. It has a student population of over 12,000 and a faculty strength of nearly 1,500. The university offers more than 120 UG, PG, and doctoral programs.
