M. Tech. in Nanotechnology (Biomedical & Technology Stream)
The M Tech in Nanotechnology program leans strongly towards hands-on work and is not just a degree based on theory classes. Students are trained in the Center’s nanotechnology labs and get an opportunity to participate in the Center's funded research projects grants. The students are expected to complete their thesis work in nanosciences under the guidance of the faculty. The program also offers clinical exposure in one of the many operation theatres of the hospital to help students develop an understanding of the medical applications of nanotechnology. In short, this is a pioneering program that aims to develop an all-round scientist and technologist with interdisciplinary specialisation in three areas - nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical sciences. The first batch of students began in August 2007. A separate teaching facility has classrooms, a library and faculty offices as well as two teaching labs, a microbiology lab, a cell culture lab, an animal lab and a computer lab. In addition, various labs at the ACNS Research Center are also available for students to carry out their project work.
Eligibility: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or B.Tech. in Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Materials Science with at least 60% marks (or equivalent).
Intake Capacity of Students: 10
There will be common entrance exam in different centers: Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi which is followed by interview for selecting students. GATE Scholars are exempted from the common entrance exam.
The Director of the Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine is Dr. Shantikumar V. Nair who received the prestigious 2011 National Research Award in Nanoscience and Technology from the Govt. of India and was a faculty at University of Massachusetts, USA, for 20 years.
