The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, organized a half-day workshop on Bringing Computational Thinking to Schools on July 31, 2018 at Muralikrishna Hall – CIR Building, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. This workshop was organized in collaboration with CSPathshala, an ACM India Initiative. The primary participants (around 70 in number) were school principals, computer and math teachers from primary and secondary schools in Coimbatore, Pollachi and Udumalpet.

Considering the fact that there is a widespread lack of knowledge (especially in Indian schools) of what constitutes the core of computing, the primary objective of the workshop was to bring a modern computing curriculum to Indian schools. After the registration, the workshop started with the welcome address by Dr. Latha Parameswaran, Chairperson – Department of Computer Science & Engineering. This was followed by the keynote address by Dr. R. Nadarajan from ACM India. Mr. Chandrasekhar Sahasrabudhe, COO of ACM India, briefed about ACM-India’s activities. Ms. Sonali Gogate from CSPathshala presented about CSPathshala and its initiatives to bring modern computing curriculum. The workshop concluded with computational thinking activities for the participants.
