Amrita Center for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine
India's first Nanobio center, Amrita Center for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine (ACNSMM), is recognized today as a leader in Nanotechnology, Molecular medicine and Solar Cell research as well as education. The Centre also hosts a Nano Solar Centre for Excellence which focusses on innovative product development in photovoltaics and storage devices using nanomaterials.
ACNSMM is located on Amrita's healthcare campus that also has Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.
The Centre was established in February 2006. In February 2009, it hosted NanoBio -- the world's first conference in tissue engineering and stem cell research. Delegates included scientists and research associates from several countries as well as all affiliated research institutions in India. It is all set to unveil NanoBio 2011.
PhD Openings in Nanosolar Division
Currently seeking Ph.D. candidates in our Nanosolar Division.
Ours is one of the first Centres for Excellence for Solar Energy under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The Center is also funded by a Centre grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Government of India, under India's Nanomission, and another Centre Grant from NATAG, DST.
The candidate will be required to work in developing state-of-the-art technologies for thin film-based nanostructured energy storage devices. Applicants should have an M.Sc./M.Tech. degree with first class in either Physics/Chemistry /Materials Science/Electronics Engineering. The proposed start date is Jan 1, 2011.
Selected PhD candidates will be fully funded with a Junior Research Fellowship as per UGC norms. Candidates are encouraged to send their CVs by email with subject line: "PhD 2011 Nano Solar" to " researchsecretary@aims.amrita.edu". Alternatively they can post their CVs to the following address:

Director's Message
ACNSMM offers PhD, MTech Molecular Medicine & MTech in Nanotechnology
The current batch of MTech Nanotechnology is entirely composed of students from the biomedical orientation. Starting this year 2010, the batch will also contain students with device/fabrication technology orientation. In this hands-on and experience-oriented program, students become skilled in the technology and learn to apply it to a variety of biomedical areas and device fabrication technology.
The Center has a team of highly talented faculty, many of whom have trained with premier international institutions. Several PhD students have also recently joined us.
Substantial government funding has been received for many projects in tissue engineering, stem cell research, cancer diagnostics and solar cells.
At ACNS, while contributing to these developments, we also seek to benefit humanity through the research work undertaken, in keeping with the vision of our beloved Chancellor Amma.
All over the world, there are exciting developments in the field of nanotechnology. We welcome you to join our team and be a part of this revolutionary technology.
