Bio

Dr. Dhanya M. currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and in the Amrita Centre for Wireless Networks and Applications. She has an M. Sc. degree in Physics and an MTech degree in Atmospheric Sciences. She received Ph. D. from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The title of her Ph. D. thesis is “Improved simulation of meteorological systems over India: Impact of assimilating satellite observations using 3dvar and EnKf” . This work involved the assimilation of remote sensing observations in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model using the 3-dimensional variational technique as well as the ensemble Kalman filter technique.

Dhanya’s research interests include:

  • Extreme weather events
  • Rainfall threshold models for landslide early warning
  • Applications of AI/ ML tools in Earth Sciences
