Event Details

A Colloquium on the Role of Amyloid β-peptide in Alzheimer Disease was conducted at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, on May 5, 2017. The resource person was Dr. P. Kolandaivel, Emeritus Professor and Former Director, School of Physical SciencesDean (Research) and Registrar in-charge, Bharathiar University.

Alzheimer disease (AD) is one of the most common form of age-related neurodegenerative dementia, associated with loss of memory, cognitive decline, behavioural and physical disability, ultimately leading to death. The brain of AD is characterized by the presence of plaques and tangles in the cerebral cortex. The major constituent of these plaques is aggregation of amyloid β(Aβ) peptide. Efforts to design AD therapeutics based compounds which control Aβ aggregation have been hampered by the lack of a complete understanding of the neurotoxin role of various Aβ aggregations. Despite the large number of research have been focused on protein misfolding and amyloid formation, the coupling of these phenomena with disease is still challenging problem in AD.
