The country's 68th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervor at Amrita University’s Amritapuri Campus. The 15th of August is a day like no other in the memory of Indians. It is the day we honor the memory of our ancestors and the sacrifices they made for our motherland, and above all, it reminds us of the true value of our freedom. Furthermore, on the day of independence, Amrita Sanjeevani, the Students Seva Association of Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus, under the guidance of Amma, took an initiative to free our environment from the accumulating waste that burdens our Mother Earth. Taking a small step, Amrita Sanjeevani introduced the Independence Day cleanup drive to remove the waste from nearby surroundings so that it may be recycled, or at the very least, better disposed of.  The cleanup drive took place in the immediate vicinity of the campus and was inaugurated by Sheela Sarasan, President, Clappana Grama Panchayat, Oachira Block, Kollam, Kerala after the national flag hoisting ceremony.

Dr. Vivek Menon, Associate Professor of Information Systems at Amrita School of Business, Kochi has been accepted into the Academic Advocate Program of ISACA and has been designated as an ISACA Academic Advocate for Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. ISACA is an independent, nonprofit, global association, which engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for information systems and has more than 115,000 members worldwide. The ISACA Academic Advocate serves as a link between research, teaching, and practice in the areas of IS Audit/Assurance, Security / Cybersecurity, IT Governance and Risk professions. Dr. Vivek Menon, a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), has been teaching Information Systems courses at the Amrita School of Business across campuses at Amritapuri, Kochi and Coimbatore since 2001 and has been involved in offering an elective course on IT Governance, Risk & Compliance since 2013. He is also a member of the ISACA Cochin Chapter.

Amrita alumnus Pradeep Menon, Co-founder, Quadrant Risk Management, United Arab Emirates, shared his experience with members of Amrita Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE) on August 5, 2014. Pradeep Menon graduated from the Amrita’s Coimbatore campus in 2000 with an MBA degree. The invited talk was aptly titled as, Taking up the Entrepreneurial Journey, wherein Menon began by recounting his three entrepreneurial stints– computer redistribution business prior to his MBA from Amrita; a second enterprise in the area of information security- Quadrant which was later acquired by Sify in 2004 and the third venture Quantum Risk Management in Dubai. Currently, Menon serves as the Vice President– Business Transformation at Isyx Technologies, after Quadrant was acquired by Isyx.  Highlighting the importance of perseverance, self-belief, self-confidence and cash-flow management, Menon spoke about how India ranks at the top in the Total Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) Index as computed by the World Bank, London Business School, GEM, etc.

Prof. Raghu Raman from Amrita School of Business was invited for the panel discussion at the 2nd National NCD Summit – Shaping Health Policies in Public Sector Enterprises (PSE) organized by CII-Public Health and Eli Lilly. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India gave the key note address. Prof. Raman spoke about the emerging role of robust Health Management Information System (HMIS) at PSEs to manage the emerging NCD burden. He shared his experience of deploying country’s first Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System across 33 Govt. Medical hospitals in the state of Maharashtra. The session was chaired by Prof. Ranjit Roy Chaudhury Chairman, Task Force for Research, Apollo Hospitals Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) with members from Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), McCaan Health. Some of the participating PSEs included BHEL, ONGC, NTPC, IOCL, Bharat Dynamics, Singareni Colliaries, NGRI, South Central Railways and APSRTC.

Amrita University and Télécom Ecole De Management (TEM), France signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2014 for a new MBA/MSc dual degree program. The MoU was signed on behalf of Amrita by Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita University and Jacky Akoka, Dean, Télécom Ecole de Management signed on behalf of TEM, France. This is an excellent opportunity for MBA students at Amrita University. Students who have successfully completed five trimesters at the Amrita School of Business can proceed to TEM in order to complete the specialized courses of the MSc in International Management. Students will spend two semesters at TEM, the second semester comprising of a professionally advantageous internship that will boost resumes and attract potential employers.

Placements

The Directorate of Corporate & Industry Relations (CIR) strives to achieve excellent placement of students each year. A proven track record of consistent high quality placements year-on-year is one of the reasons for many bright students opting for admissions in Amrita.
