Synthesis of Lube/ fuel additive from CNSL

Oil soluble alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compounds functionalized with amine or substituted amines are commonly used as additives in lube oil and fuel oil, since these compounds have potential activity as oxidation inhibitor (antioxidant), emulsifier and crank case detergent. Mannich base derivatives of polyisobutenylsucinicanhydride are the most common. Cardanol which is obtained by the distillation (decarboxylation) of cashew nut shell liquid is chemically an alkyl substituted phenol. It is used in all industries from polymer to medicine. The greatest advantage with cardanol is its availability from renewable source, biodegradability and eco-friendly nature. The objective of the project was to synthesize long chain compounds involving amines and cardanols by utilizing eco-friendly compound from renewable source as the starting material.
