Course Syllabus
Fundamentals of electric drives, dynamics of electric drives, multi quadrant operation, closed loop control of drives.
Review of DC and AC Motor Drives: Primitive machine: unified approach to the analysis of electrical machine, basic two pole model of rotating machines.
Kron’s primitive machine: voltage, power and torque equation, linear transformation from 3 phase to 2 phase and from rotating axes to stationary axes, in-variance of power.
Principle of vector Control: vector controlled induction motor drive, basic principle, direct rotor flux oriented vector control, estimation of rotor flux and torque, implementation with current source and voltage source inverters. Stator flux oriented vector control, indirect rotor flux oriented vector control scheme, implementation, tuning. Vector control strategies for synchronous motor. Introduction to sensor-less control, basic principle of direct torque control, MRAS, PLC based control.
Simulation and case studies on the above control techniques.
