Course Objective

Explore how we understand ourselves in a perpetually shifting present.
Observe how and why we cast ourselves into the future, into alternative contemporary realities, into variations on being.
Provide an open forum to discuss topics such as the early origins of Sci-fi, Utopias, Dystopias, Soft Sci-fi, Hard Sci-fi, Time Travel, Women in Sci-fi, Cybernetics and Sci-fi, Issues of gender, ecology, language, power, genetic engineering, and imaginative literature.

Course Outcomes

  • CO1: Recognizethe relationship between science and society.
  • CO2:Explainthe sub-genres and tropes of science fiction.
  • CO3: Analyze the individual’s role in technology and development.
  • CO4: Evaluate the representative works of science fiction and fantasy in a larger cultural, intellectual, and aesthetic context.
