Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Web Design

The web design process, Define key web design terms (terminology, layout, navigation). Identify different types of websites (e-commerce, portfolio, blog). Analyse existing websites in terms of their design elements.

Unit II

Building Blocks of the Web

Introduction to HTML & CSS Code, basic HTML structures (headings, paragraphs, lists). Introduction to CSS: styling and layout (fonts, colours, layouts). Experiment with different CSS properties and values.

Analyse code for efficiency and adherence to best practices. Small-scale web page development projects using HTML and CSS.

Unit III

Visual Design Principles

Design fundamentals, colour theory, typography, composition. Website layout and navigation Responsive web design, User Experience (UX) & Design Principles Identify core principles of user

experience (UX) design. Analyse website navigation for user-friendliness. Compare and contrast different web design layouts.

Unit IV

Interactive Web Design

Introduction to web forms and user interaction, Basic website animation techniques

Design and build a simple, responsive website prototype, Combine knowledge of HTML, CSS, and UX principles for practical application.

Unit V

Advanced Techniques & Project Development

Planning and design of a website project, Implementing HTML, CSS, and additional feature, (Evaluating & Creating) Explore advanced CSS features (animations, media queries). Evaluate available web development resources and tools, Website testing and deployment.

Objectives and Outcomes

The objective of this course is to provide students with the fundamental principles and practices of web design. Learn fundamental web technologies like HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript. Gain hands-on experience building responsive websites using frameworks like Bootstrap. Develop an understanding of visual design principles for the web. Gain a practical understanding of core web design principles. Develop skills to build user-friendly and visually appealing websites.

Course Outcome (CO):

CO1: Define key web design terms and identify different website types.

CO2: Code basic HTML structures, apply CSS styles, and analyse website navigation for user-friendliness.

CO3: Evaluate website content for clarity and compare different web design layouts.

CO4: Use responsive design techniques and apply web accessibility standards to create a simple, responsive website prototype.

CO5: Evaluate advanced web development resources and integrate basic JavaScript to develop a comprehensive website project that demonstrates their understanding and application of all learned skills. CO6: Combine lectures, discussions, in-class exercises, and individual projects to equip students with the necessary skills to build modern websites.
