Chem-Fest 2019

The association of the Department of Chemistry, School of Arts and Sciencs, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, Rasatantra, has organized a two-day program Chem-Fest 2019 with the theme of ‘Food Science’. The event was held on 25th and 26th February 2019 in our beautiful campus of Amrita Vishwa Viyapeetham, Amritapuri, Kerala.

About

The aim of the Chem-Fest 2019 is to create awareness on acutely growing crisis associated with food and health. Time has come to make food the basis of a healthy civilization and improve the safety, nutrition, convenience, affordability, and availability of food with the help of science and technology, and help society overcome hunger and disease.

On 25th February, a poster competition was organized on ‘Food Science’ and Vegetarian Healthy Food Cooking Competition as well. The event received an overwhelming response from students and staff of School of Ayurveda and School of Biotechnology and most of the prizes went with them.

On 26th February, two invited talks were conducted. Prof. Ananth Ram Sharma P. V., Department of Panchakarma, Amrita School of Ayurveda, delivered the talk on the topic, “Ayur-Chemistry of Food – Reviewing the Principles” and Dr. R. Prakash Chandran, Department of Chemistry, Mannam Memorial NSS College, delivered the talk on the topic, “Enzymes in Food Industry: A Chemistry Perspective”. On 26th February afternoon, the Chem-Fest 2019 was concluded with Master level student’s competitions such as Chem Quiz 2019, Seminar competition and talk on Nobel laureates.
