Amrita University has recently established an Honorary Doctorate degree initiative, to honor the world’s leading scientists, academics, and public servants, for their contributions to humanity.
We are very pleased to inform you that Jeffrey D. Sachs, Global Economist for Sustainable Development, and Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, will be awarded Honorary Doctorates in the first event of its kind at Amrita University. Jeffrey D. Sachs is a world leader in the field of Sustainable Development and has been instrumental in helping such a field get recognition through his tireless work around the world. He spearheaded its formation and spread in the academic world by creating a multi-disciplinary and multi-level view of what was then a new area. In addition, his broad and deep knowledge of economics and allied fields allowed him to convince the United Nations and major international NGOs to join the effort to make our world a better place for future generations of the world’s children. Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kailash Satyarthi is widely known across the globe for his tireless efforts on child protection.
He has been at the forefront of the global movement to end child slavery and exploitation since 1980. Through his “Save Childhood Movement” (Bachpan Bachao Andolan), he liberated more than 86,000 children in India from child labor, slavery, and trafficking. He developed a successful model for their education, rehabilitation, and reintegration into mainstream society. His mission to create a child-friendly world resulted in hundreds of “child-friendly villages” or Bal Mitra Grams (BMGs) in India and Nepal. The Honorary Doctorate ceremony will be held virtually on January 12th, 2022 from 20:30 to 22:00 IST. Please follow this link to attend the event: amrita.edu/honoraryphd
