Bio

Dr. M. Aravindakshan has over 40 years of experience in teaching, research and extension activities in tropical horticulture.

A well-known expert on organic agriculture and environment-friendly landscaping practices, Dr. Aravindakshan was entrusted with the work of massive tree planting at Amrita University’s Coimbatore Campus. Prior to joining Amrita, he was Professor and HoD, Department of Horticulture and the Director of Center for Tree Crops and Environmental Horticulture at Kerala Agricultural University. He also served as Chairman of the Coconut Development Board, Government of India.

Dr. Aravindakshan established India’s first College of Horticulture in Kerala and has considerable international experience. He completed his post-doctoral research at the University of Hawaii, USA. and served as Visiting Professor at the University of Paraiba, Brazil. He was deputed as an expert from India to Panama, where he presented a report on the development of horticulture. Dr. Aravindakshan is widely traveled in India and abroad.

Dr. Aravindakshan’s current areas of interest are organic agriculture, medicinal plants, neutraceuticals, tree planting and landscaping. He has developed an extensive collection of medicinal plants at Amrita and is the President of Indian Society of Organic Agriculture. His work has been presented at several national and international conferences. Dr. Aravindakshan obtained his Ph.D. from University of Madras.
