Abstract : Water from various sources are stored in lakes and used for multiple purposes after a prolonged storage time. The main purpose of this paper is to predict the stored water status using fuzzy inference technique. Quality of water affects public health, growth and yield of the plants. Water quality is measured based on its chemical, physical, and biological parameters. Water quality of 3 different lakes in the surroundings of Hosur Municipality in Tamil Nadu has been analysed based on pH, DO, Boron, SAR, BOD, Free Ammonia and TC using fuzzy inference system. Due to uncertainty and inconsistency of water quality data, fuzzy system is used to classify the water into 5 different groups based on the criteria specified by the Central Pollution Control Board. This paper perhaps the first attempt to analyse the lake water in and around Hosur region. It is to be noted that lake water percolates to the soil and directly influences the ground water quality, which is utilized by the local people of Hosur.
