FPGA Based LED Cube to Assist Child Dyslexia

Abstract : pLED Cube is a 3-dimensional arrangement of light emitting diodes to form a cube-like structure which can be used to create patterns, considering each LED to be pixel. LED cube concept can be used for developing learning/teaching models for any subject like molecular arrangement in organic chemistry, concepts of electromagnetic theory and so on. The LED Cube would be an innovative and attractive way to teach children diagnosed with dyslexia. This paper aims at developing a learning model for children diagnosed with dyslexia using a FPGA based LED Cube. FPGA was chosen for this application as it allows rapid prototyping and efficient utilization of combinational logic blocks compared to microcontroller or ASIC. A prototype model of 3×3×3 LED cube using Virtex-4 FPGA is designed and tested for its operation. © 2017 IEEE./p
