Abstract : Accidents occur on roads due to several factors like negligence of drivers, bad road conditions, heavy traffic, etc. It is obligatory that the humans affected in the accidents have to be taken to the nearest hospital by ambulance instantaneously to prevent further impairment to their lives. However, the demanding traffic congestion may hinder the smooth transit of the ambulance (Emergency Vehicle) to the hospital. With the wireless advancements the traffic lights can be integrated with V2X communication to assist the accident victim to reach the hospital at the earliest. This paper proposes a V2I scheme involving traffic lights directing the emergency vehicle to the nearby hospital based on the real time traffic to avoid further damage. A firmware implementation of the scheme is carried out using suitable embedded platforms. © 2018 IEEE.
