Abstract : Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) is a low cost, less-noisy, convenient charging technique. The losses incurred in wired transmission is estimated to be 20-30%. WPT attempts to minimize the losses and reduce the pollution levels. Resonance coupling technology has been chosen for wireless power transfer for powering automobile position sensors. The configuration or shape of transmitter and receiver coils has a great impact on power transfer capability. In this paper, the detailed analysis of commonly used coil configurations is done in MATLAB with the objective of selecting the most suitable configuration for powering position sensors in automobiles. The coil configurations considered for analysis are helix, spiral square and spiral circular. The results of simulation analysis show that spiral square shaped coil is more feasible in terms of output power, efficiency and coupling coefficient compared to other configurations.
