Abstract : The core sediment from two distinct zones of the Paravur estuary, one from the sea water influenced western region and other from the river water influenced eastern region were selected for estimating the different species of phosphorus. The concentration of different species of phosphorus along with iron, organic carbon and textural quality from different sediment depths of the above two locations were investigated. The average value of total phosphorus was found to be higher in fresh water influenced region than marine influenced region. Total phosphorus shows a strong positive correlation with organic carbon in both regions
