Abstract : A battery charger for electric vehicles with rooftop PV panels has been proposed which is capable of tracking input voltage variations and battery SOC levels. This battery charger is able to extract max power from the panel and the output voltage is boosted to required variable gain. The battery is charged according to battery SOC level. An L3C resonant converter which is capable of producing variable voltage gain and soft switching conditions is used for this purpose. Simulation of the system with 350W power solar panel and a lithium ion battery pack is done using Mat lab-Simulink.
