Abstract : Mining is a risky activity, the risk factor increases exponentially when it comes to the underground mine. Proliferation in system intelligence, evolving infrastructure of the Internet of Things (IoT) is the next big and potential technology, which is revolutionizing the industrial world, and wireless communication technology has now become a necessity to develop and improve the safety measurements in systems; especially in underground mines. This paper brings out the role of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and cloud server for optimizing safety and security in mining industries. In this work, a monitoring system consisting of sensor networks, which can be employed in the industrial environment to send the data to the cloud using IIoT concepts and to access the data remotely from anywhere to analyze the data and to generate a warning signal at an earlier time to avoid any catastrophe is presented. © 2018 IEEE.
