Abstract : In 1996 NASA invented a low profile piezoelectric which offers as an alternative for controlling any thin control surface by applying strain. This actuator is called Macro Fibre and it has promising applications in the field of Aeronautics and Automobile. Macro Fibre Composite can produce a linear strain by converting a high voltage input. They are capable of morphing the shape of a thin surface such as an aircraft control surface or an automobile spoiler. In this paper we will discuss about the modelling, optimization and applications of Macro Fibre Composite and also compare them to the traditional servo motor in order to evaluate whether they are a reliable substitute for the same. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
