Abstract : One of the major issues in the environment over recent years is the degradation of the quality of air due to emissions caused by vehicles. The high rate of pollution caused by vehicles in urban areas accounts for one-fifth of the total emissions happening in India. It has been found that the Air Quality Index (AQI) of India is 141 which is a very high rate and it is extremely dangerous to breathe the air. The emission from automobiles consists of toxic substances like Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Hydrocarbons (HC). This can cause severe health effects like asthma, disorders in the lungs, infertility, irritation to the eyes, and many more which are undesirable. So, to prevent the increasing rate of emission from the vehicles and also to improve the working condition of the vehicles, an emission monitoring, and alerting system is proposed. The air quality sensor and temperature sensor are used to check the engine condition which in turn determines the emission of a vehicle. The system consists of carbon monoxide sensors to detect the carbon emission and the emission value is displayed to the user on the driver’s dashboard. The proposed system reads and analyses the sensor values and sends the data to cloud platforms and an android application. Analysis of the recorded sensor data is performed on the cloud, and an alerting system is designed with the help of Twilio API. The whole system is controlled by the ESP32 microcontroller.
