Abstract : Most deficit macro nutrient in Indian soil is nitrogen which plays vital role in production of tillering and its regeneration, leaf to stem ratio, succulence and palatability of fodder crops. Higher application of nitrogen may lead to increase of prussic acid content of forage sorghum. Sorghum is considered to be a good feed, if growth is constrained by drought, or imbalanced soil nutrients, hydrocyanic acid content may develop to such an extent that the toxic level may reach lethal level when fed to animals. The study aimed to conclude the optimum organic manure and nitrogen levels on quality especially crude protein and prussic acid content in various crop growth stages and yield of multi cut forage sorghum, the field experiment was raised during rabi (September - December) season of 2015 with the variety of multi-cut forage sorghum Co (FS) 31 at Department of Millets, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The results revealed that, application of farm yard manure at 10 t/ha as organic sources of nitrogen and 125 percent of inorganic nitrogen produce more green forage yield of 38.7 and 19.2 t/ha and dry forage yield of 16.6 and 10.2 t/ha in first and second cut, respectively. With respect to quality of forage sorghum, higher crude protein and safe level of hydrocyanic acid was recorded with the application of FYM @ 10 t/ha + 100% N treatment.
