Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Currently, the department offers Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Civil Engineering, Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Structural and Construction Engineering and Ph.D. programs in Thrust areas. The academic activities of the Department lays emphasis on deep understanding of fundamental concepts, development of creative ability to handle the challenges of Civil Engineering, and the analytical ability to solve problems which are interdisciplinary in nature. The department consists of a dedicated team of experienced and qualified faculty members who demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.

The programs in the Department mainly emphases on generating knowledge, skills, and leadership needed to address society’s most challenging problems in the natural and built environments. The research activities in the department focus on thrust areas of structural and material engineering, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental and water resource engineering, construction management and planning and soft computing in Civil Engineering. The Faculty members encourage the students to get involved in the research activities of the department and thereby provide the best possible introduction to hands-on, practical engineering problems.

The department has state-of-the-art laboratories in the areas of Survey & Geoinformatics, Construction Engineering & Material Evaluation, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical & Transportation Engineering, Environmental & Water Resources Engineering.

Program Outcomes

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  • Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
