AmritaWNA Launched Mobile App to Connect Survivors with Relief Providers

Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA) launched an Android app named ‘AmritaKripa’ to connect survivors with relief and rescue service providers during the massive floods in Kerala.The app allows users to both request for and offer rescue, medical help, shelter and supplies such as food, clothing and medicine, as well as services such as water, electricity and telephone. One can also report people missing, people found orphaned, either conscious or unconscious, or dead through the app. The app, which is available in Malayalam and English, uses real-time GPS data to locate users.

Amrita Self Driving Wheelchair Article in US Magazine 'BioPhotonics'

An article on Amrita Self Driving Wheelchair is published in the September 2018 issue of 'BioPhotonics' magazine by PhotonicsMedia. Researchers at the Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Kerala, India, have developed the self-driving wheelchair with Android-based VIVO smartphones and RoboPeak Lidar (RPLIDAR), a 360°, 2D laser scanner development kit. Led by professor Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, director of HuT, three engineering students — Raviteja Chinta, Akhil Raj, and Sarath Sreekanth — assisted with the project.

Collaborations Lead to Knowledge Transfer & Transfer of Technology Says Amrita Faculty Member

Collaborations between industry and institutions have resulted in projects ranging from storage systems to smart pumps. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has around 50 active MoU's. "While most MoU's deal with research-cum-consultancy work, a few are related to knowledge transfer and transfer of technology for commercialising a product Most MoUs are related to sponsored research and providing solutions for industry problems and technical solutions in niche areas", shared A Balachandran, Senior General Manager, Corporate Relations, Corporate Industry Relations, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
