For the past seven years, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has implemented free water awareness programs across over 1,000 communities in India. Under this initiative, in November-December 2022, students and faculty from the Amrita School for Sustainable Futures (ASF) and the School of Biotechnology, through the Live-in-Labs® program, organized water awareness sessions for community members in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, and in Uttar Pradesh in February 2023.
In both states, the teams held practical sessions on monitoring daily water consumption, offering strategies for effective reduction. Families were provided with daily water cards to track their usage, creating insights into the amount used for different needs and promoting responsible water consumption during scarcity. Additionally, community-based water treatment plants and awareness sessions were launched in Panchalingapuram, Tamil Nadu, as part of the Jivamritam purified drinking water program, further enhancing sustainable water management at the community level.
