Inter College Athletics Meet organised at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru (Free access)

The Inter College Athletic meet was conducted jointly by the Department of Physical Education and Chethana, the Sports Club of the School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru, on February 29, 2020. The participants are given an opportunity to represent their respective institutions in any individual events with a restriction of participating in 2+1 events per athlete. Either two-track and one field or vice versa, which is excluding the relay event. The events for women are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800, high-jump, shotput, discus-throw and men’s events are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, high-jump, shotput and discus-throw event. There is a team 4×100 relay event for women and men where only one team per institution is allowed.

The Inter College Athletic Meet was held on 29th February 2020. The chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony was Commander Bhuvanesh Kumar (veteran), who has served the Indian Navy. The other dignitaries on the dais were, Prof. R.S.S. Rao, Head-Students Affairs, Dr. N. S. Murty, Principal incharge. The event started with the School’s inter-departmental parade headed by Ms. Mythri P., Co-Secretary, Chethana club and Mr. Maniratnam M., Secretary, Chethana club. The University Flag was held by Mr. Ajith Pai, Co-secretary, Chethana club and a few University team players.

Mr. Ramakrishnan K., escorted the guests for the parade team inspection and introduction. This was followed by the flag hoisting by the Chief Guest Commander Bhuvanesh Kumar (veteran). The chief guest declared the Sports Meet open. The School’s Sports Secretary then took the oath on behalf of the whole School to uphold the spirit of the sport and to have a free & fair judgement. All the dignitaries shared a few words about the importance of sports and Commander Bhuvanesh Kumar (veteran) highlighted how sports help in the process of nation building. He also shared his experience on how Indian Naval service has made it compulsory for practicing at least one sport for having a fresh and energetic mind.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Rajeevlochana G.C., Mentor-Chethana club. Mr. Ramakrishnan K., announced the winners of the inter-departmental parade, CSE/AIE winning the runners-up and ECE/EAC winning the Best Marching trophy. The best department was decided based on the aggregate of marks given by all the judges (generally judges are the Vice-Chairs of each department and few more faculty members based on related experience).

There were events organized for staff – 100m (Men), 50m (Women), Shotput, Discus throw, 70+30 (men and women mixed) relay. Overall, there were more than 100 medals and certificates given to the winners and we saw the highest number of participants in the parade ranging about 400 students. The number of girl participants also has considerably increased compared to the previous years.

The athletic events concluded with flag lowering and handing over the University flag to Mr. Ramakrishnan K., Mentor Chethana club and Head of Department of Physical Education. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Ajith Pai, Co-secretary, Chethana Club.

The 18th Annual Athletic meet concluded with the National Anthem.
