Agriculture is the backbone of the economy and mainstay occupation in many countries worldwide. World would require about 50% more food by 2050, and we need to achieve this by making use of declining resources, under increasing natural calamities and importantly in a socially responsible environment friendly manner. This mandates a major shift from the conventional way of farming that is followed in most parts of the world to smart farming using advanced technology. AI in agriculture is very relevant and required under these circumstances for the sustainability of the world. AI-powered technologies have the potential to address a variety of challenges in agriculture such as dealing with unpredictable weather, optimal resource utilization, maximizing yields, better market access and agri-product distribution. Smart agriculture could drive agricultural productivity with precision agriculture, automation, forecasting pest and disease outbreaks, etc. while minimizing ecological footprint. The sessions will be focusing on advanced applications of AI in agriculture.
