Unit I: Water And Wastewater Treatment

Physical,chemical,andbiologicalcharacteristicsofwastewater.Wastewatertreatment processes. Primary treatment: Screening, grit removal, oil and grease removal, sedimentation-coagulation. Secondary treatment: Activated Sludge Process, Rotating Biological Contactor. Tertiary treatment methods. Process design of wastewater treatmentequipment.

Unit II: Air Pollution And Control

Sources of air pollutants. Monitoring of air pollutants. Evaluation of Air Quality Index. Air pollution control equipment: scrubber, bag filter, settling chamber, cyclone separator, electrostatic precipitator. Process design of air pollution control equipment.

Unit III: Solid Waste Management

Classification of solid wastes. Waste management. Waste processing techniques: Thermochemical conversion techniques- incineration, pyrolysis, refuse derived fuel, gasification. Biochemical conversion techniques- composting, bio methanation. Waste disposal methods. Biomedical, hazardous and electronic waste management.

CO4: Study the processing and management of different types of waste like municipal solid waste, electronic waste, hazardous waste, and biomedical waste
