About

Amrita Academic Excellence Award for School Teachers

The proverb ‘Matha, Pitha, Guru, Deivam’ has been around since the beginning of time. Translated word for word, it is, ‘Mother, Father, Teacher, God’. The meaning of this adage is the greatest truth, and is the order in which one should offer reverence. The statement is a foundational precept that has existed since the Vedas and reflects the hierarchy in which these creatures should be revered. The instructor, known in India as a ‘Guru,’ has traditionally played an important role in shaping young minds and impacting every aspect of a student’s development. Teaching is abstract, concrete, and creative, as well as philosophical and intellectual. Since the outbreak of the pandemic two years ago, educators, students, and families all across the world have shown amazing dedication and flexibility in quickly adapting to the necessity to migrate to online learning. By including audio, video, and various collaboration tools into their virtual lessons, teachers have played a vital role in enabling students to stay connected, interested, and motivated during this transformation.

The Times of India and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham have announced the ‘Teachers Excellence Award’ to inspire and motivate teachers during these trying times. The idea behind this is to recognise and honour the distinctive contributions of some of the state’s best teachers. The prize winners will be remembered as knowledge fighters who instilled education and fortitude in young people so that they might achieve remarkable things in life despite adversity.
