Hybrid International Conference on
Antimicrobial Resistance

November 17-18, 2023

Organized by: School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri

About

Alarm 23

Amrita Legion for Antimicrobial Resistance Management (ALARM) is a two-day hybrid international conference organized by School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, on November 17th and 18th, 2023. ALARM 2023 aligns with the World Health Organization’s World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) official theme of “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance”. The goal of this conference is to encourage and facilitate the spread of awareness of the burgeoning antibiotic resistance crisis that poses a long-term threat to humanity worldwide.

Events for ALARM 2023 will focus on the actions to fight antimicrobial resistance. These include actions that prevent infections, improve antibiotic and antifungal use to slow the development of resistance, and stop the spread of resistance when it does develop. For ALARM 2023, we aim to create a platform for implementing these tactics at both the scientific and public community level to educate and create awareness about antimicrobial resistance, One Health, and alternative therapies.

AMR Awareness Campaign by Research Scholars from Amrita School of Biotechnology (ASBT)

As part of ALARM 2023, research scholars from Amrita School of Biotechnology are conducting AMR Awareness Campaigns in schools in Kerala
Awareness campaigns have  been done in five schools for a total of approximately 1150 students.
Haksh-E, AMMACHI Labs’ AI-powered social robot, teaches students about AMR infection prevention through proper hand washing and hygiene practices.
ASBT research scholars teach students about microbes, how they cause infections and become resistant to antimicrobial drugs, and how to stop or prevent their spread.
These programs are ongoing until the launch of ALARM 2023 on November 17th
