Dr. Deepak Thaper works as an assistant professor (Medical Physics) at the Radiotherapy department of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre (Faridabad, Haryana). Since 2015, he has been involved in advanced radiotherapy procedures like High-Precision SRS/SRT and SBRT along with Adaptive Radiotherapy planning and procedures. He has professional experience of more than 7 years in Radiation Oncology Physics with handling the equipment viz. Elekta Versa HD, Varian Trilogy Tx Linac, Accuray Cyberknife Robotic VSI and Elekta Gamma Knife Perfexion. He is experienced in implementing new radiation oncology equipment, and clinical techniques including acceptance, commissioning, and QA of external beam radiation therapy equipment. He is expertise in shielding calculation and safety assessment for Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic radiology department. He has also vast experience of patient treatment planning 3DCRT, IMRT/IGRT, VMAT, SRS/SRT, SBRT, Adaptive EBRT, TBI, TSET and Brachytherapy. He has a good command on various TPS like Varian Eclipse, Elekta Monaco, CMS XiO, Accuray Multiplan and Varian Brachy vision. He is experienced in comprehensive QA and regulatory requirement compliance for a Radiation Oncology department.
The overarching aim of his research is to widen the therapeutic window by the development, implementation and evaluation of high-precision radiotherapy techniques. Research in this area includes developing online-adaptive radio therapy by near-real-time daily re-optimization of the treatment plan, quantifying the uncertainties during the delivery of proton therapy that may impair the theoretical benefit, and developing methods to account for those by designing robust treatment plans. He was involved as co-principal investigator in Institutional trial on “SBRT versus TACE for large tumours in hepatocellular carcinoma”. He has been a part of a randomized trial initiated by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on “SBRT versus TACE in hepatocellular carcinoma”. He has published more than 15 peer reviewed articles and abstracts in various esteemed international journals. He is lifetime member of Association of Medical Physicist of India.
