Amma Launches HuT Labs’ Revolutionary Robotics for Social Causes at Amritavarsham 70

Amritavarsham 70, Saptati Birthday Celebrations of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, also known as “Amma” was held on October 3, 2023, at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Campus in Amritapuri, Kerala, India. This event was a significant milestone for Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, which showcased several innovative products during the celebrations.

During the event, Amma launched two initiatives from HuT Labs: “Netravaad“, India’s first Eye Sign Communication Device for Speech Disability, and “Bhuja“, a Low Cost Six Degrees of Freedom Collaborative Robotic Arm. “Netravaad” was tested with over 100 volunteers and patients and gives voice to severe stroke patients and quadriplegics. “Bhuja” has multiple applications, including chip industry, medical robotics, heavy industry, service robotics, and disaster management.

HuT Labs also showcased and demoed several other products in the Exhibition Hall, including:

  • Foldable Wheelchair“- Despite its lightweight 28kg frame, made from premium stainless steel, it can carry up to 100kg with ease. Featuring movable armrests, electromagnetic brakes, and a top speed of 6 km/h.
  • Steering-type Wheelchair“- allows users to change direction with a steering wheel. This type of wheelchair is designed to provide greater mobility and independence to users who have difficulty using traditional wheelchairs due to limited upper body strength or coordination.
  • Vaaha“- the vanguard of autonomous food delivery Robot, reshaping the landscape of service in settings ranging from bustling restaurants to serene hospital corridors.
  • Netravaad” – Eye Sign Communication Device for Speech Disability, India’s first such device. It gives voice to severe stroke patients and quadriplegics. Tested with 100+ volunteers and patients.

Many visitors were thrilled to test drive the wheelchair products and interact with the dedicated staff in the Demonstration sessions. HuT Labs also had a stall to display and sell Foldable & Non-Foldable models of its Wheelchairs.

Overall, Amritavarsham 70 was a remarkable and memorable event for HuT Labs as it continues to focus its efforts on using robotics for social causes, particularly in the areas of healthcare, human-aided devices, agriculture, embedded systems, and more. The launch of “Netravaad” and “Bhuja” initiatives from HuT Labs by Amma is a significant step towards improving the lives of people with disabilities and advancing the field of robotics for social causes.
