Abstract : The retail sector in Indian has seen a drastic transformation and rapid growth since the last decade. . Organized retail sector is growing at rapid speed, more jobs are being created, town plans are getting modernized, and thus the consumer behavior too. While the transition is happening at global level in various forms, the shopping behavior of consumer is also likely to change with the growing choices and trends. The shopping patterns of the Indian consumer are becoming more effervescent as a result of the vigorous changes taking place in their lifestyle and also due to the impact of global marketing conditions in the retailing industry. A consumer is the one who pays something to consume goods and services produced. As such, consumers play a vital role in the economic system of a nation.. The choice and decisions of the consumers have great impact on the marketing condition as they influence the demand and supply of products. With the advent of shopping malls there is a great change in consumer’s buying behaviour. Nowadays they prefer to purchase more from these shopping malls rather than from retail shops. As a result this study focuses to bring out the changes in the buying behaviour of the respondents with regard to the expectation of the products and availability of service that are offered in the mall and factors that are influencing the customer towards the purchase of products in the shopping malls. This study also aims conduct a comparative study on the buying pattern of the consumer from retail shops and from shopping malls The sample size of 100 has been selected for the study from Ernakulum district and Simple Random Sampling method is used in the study. The study mainly focuses on the buying behaviour of consumers in the shopping malls
