Abstract : Chitosan (CS) is a natural bioactive polysaccharide with intrinsic antimicrobial activity and, due to its exceptional physicochemical properties imparted by the polysaccharide backbone. Chitosan film is used as one of the food packing materials in biopolymer. Chitosan film has low water resistance properties. Packing material also subjected to tearing resistance, tensile strength and shear strength evaluated. In this study, to improve these properties pure chitosan is blend with hydroxyapatite and cross-linked with glutaraldehyde. Modified chitosan film is investigated by tensile test, trouser tear test and punching shear test that they had improved the water resistance and mechanical properties. Surface measured the water absorption properties by contact angle measurement and surface morphology by Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM).The main objective of this work is to improve the mechanical properties and water absorption properties of the CS film by blending with hydroxyl group and by crosslinking with GA. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
