Abstract : Microgrids (MGs) and Distributed Generation are becoming a significant area of research because of their peculiar distinctiveness. Microgrids are composed of generating sources which can be renewable, placed near the customer side. Also, they have the intrinsic property of islanding i.e. the disconnection of either the MG from the main grid or a part of the MG from the rest of the MG. In this paper, the behavior of a MG during grid connected and islanded operation is investigated. A control approach is proposed in this paper to be applied on a PMSG, for providing both voltage and frequency regulation capabilities, and thereby to provide an improvement in the dynamic behavior of a microgrid system. Also a pitch angle control strategy and a switch mode control strategy with MPPT have been implemented. The MATLAB/SIMULINK software is used to develop the simulation model. © 2013 IEEE.
