Amrita University’s Pivotal Step in Global Collaboration: Partnering with NGOs on SDGs through Student Volunteering, Research, and Educational Resource Development
To address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through NGO collaborations, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched the International Network for Sustainable Innovation and Resilient Futures (SustIN), an initiative designed to foster a sustainable future via student volunteering, research programs, and educational resource development. With over 134 collaborators, including 82 NGOs from 20 countries, and 52 universities, SustIN offers diverse engagement opportunities, aligning with the university’s UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Development.
Student Volunteering Programs
SustIN collaborates closely with its 82 NGO partners to provide hands-on volunteering opportunities for students in SDG-focused initiatives. These projects enable students to contribute directly to clean water, education, gender equality, and environmental conservation efforts, enhancing their understanding of sustainability challenges while making meaningful community contributions.
Research Programs
SustIN prioritizes research collaborations with NGO and university partners, exploring solutions for critical issues like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and water management. By combining academic insights with NGO field expertise, SustIN facilitates adaptable research with practical applications for diverse global communities.
Development of Educational Resources
Through its global curriculum development pathway, SustIN engages educators, NGOs, and community service organizations to create educational resources on sustainable development. This interdisciplinary curriculum covers essential areas, including environmental sustainability and community development, preparing students to address real-world challenges with culturally relevant and values-driven approaches.
In addition, SustIN serves as a knowledge exchange hub, bringing together UNESCO Chairs and institutional partners to share best practices and innovative solutions across SDG areas.
