Amrita Hospitals in Faridabad have implemented a process to treat wastewater using Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP).

Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)

STP is a facility that treats domestic wastewater to remove contaminants and make it safe for disposal or reuse. It involves several treatment processes, including physical, biological, and chemical processes, to remove pollutants from the wastewater.

Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP)

ETP is a facility that treats industrial wastewater to remove pollutants before it is discharged into the environment. It employs various treatment methods, such as physical, chemical, and biological processes, to remove contaminants and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Wastewater Treatment Process at Amrita Hospitals Faridabad

The STP is primarily responsible for treating domestic wastewater generated within the hospital premises, including wastewater from sinks, toilets, and showers. The treatment process in the STP may involve the following steps:

  1. Preliminary Treatment: This step involves the removal of large objects, such as debris and solid waste, through processes like screening and grit removal.
  2. Primary Treatment: In this step, the wastewater undergoes physical processes like sedimentation and flotation to remove suspended solids and settleable organic matter.
  3. Secondary Treatment: The wastewater is then subjected to biological processes, such as activated sludge treatment or trickling filters, to remove dissolved organic matter and nutrients.
  4. Tertiary Treatment: If required, the treated wastewater may undergo additional treatment processes, such as filtration or disinfection, to further improve its quality before reuse or discharge.

On the other hand, the ETP is responsible for treating industrial wastewater generated within the hospital, which may contain specific contaminants from medical processes or equipment. The treatment process in the ETP may involve additional steps or specialized treatment methods to address the unique characteristics of industrial wastewater.
