Real-time Landslide Warning Systems by Amrita Center for Wireless Networks & Applications

This goal was soon achieved when the newly established center was entrusted with the esteemed WINSOC (Wireless Sensor Networks with Self-Organization Capabilities for Critical and Emergency Applications) project in collaboration with 11 prominent academic and industrial partners from Europe via the European Commission’s FP6 program. Today, AmritaWNA is internationally recognized for its successful development and deployment of the world’s first Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) System for the Detection and Early Warning of Landslides in the Munnar region of Kerala.

Amrita HuT Labs’ Autonomous Wheelchair Project Selected for IEEE HAC & SIGHT Funding

The Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, was selected for the IEEE HAC and SIGHT funding of USD 4919 for the project titled “Autonomous Wheelchair with Negative Pressure Isolation Hood (21-COV1-071)”. This is the second project approved and funded by IEEE HAC & SIGHT.

Engineering Students at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Develop Forest Fire Early Detection System

A group of students from the department of electronics and communications have developed “AGNI KAVAJ,” a forest fire early detection system using UAV and advanced computation technology to detect fire and alert officials as early as possible. The project is funded by the government Forest and wildlife department, Kerala and was successfully implemented at the Chambra Peak in Wayanad.

Amrita CREATE and Amrita School of Ayurveda to Develop Ayur CEL

Amrita Center for Research in Advanced Technologies for Education (Amrita CREATE) and Amrita School of Ayurveda to develop e- learning platform, Ayur CEL. The Ayurveda Clinical e-learning (AYURCeL) is a web platform to make available the clinical experiences of successful Ayurveda clinicians in a digital form and format that will facilitate continuous clinical learning based on well documented case studies. The project is funded by Rashtriya Ayurved Vidyapeeth, Ministry of AYUSH.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is partnering with 14 other institutions from EU, UK, China, Mexico, Mongolia, Paraguay in the ‘WeNet-The internet of Us.’ Dr. Shyam Diwakar, Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology and Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri, leads Amrita’s role in this project. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is the only partner from India.

Amrita HuT Labs in collaboration with Megara Robotics, launches PRABHA, an IOT Based UV Sanitizer Robot

Amrita’s Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs collaborated with Megara Robotics, a private enterprise in Chennai, to develop PRABHA. In September, PRABHA was deployed at Amrita Hospital in Kochi in the throes of COVID-19 treatment and later in March it was launched at the Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amritapuri Campus.

The Amrita School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri Campus was formally given permission for carrying out its role in the ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge: India’ — a collaborative effort of the US-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under Ministry of Science and Technology, along with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) which is a Government of India Enterprise.

Amrita Center for Digital Health (Wireless Telemedicine)

Amrita Research Labs has developed this integrated telemedicine solution for linking various clinics and hospitals located in the remote areas of India with Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center (AIMS), Kochi. AIMS is one of the few medical institutions in India chosen by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Government of India, to participate in its pilot “Telemedicine Project” which provides tele-consultations to remote locations in India such as the Lakshadweep Islands and Leh-Ladakh. The project is funded by GoI. International Partners are MD Anderson Cancer Institute, Texas, Case Western University, West Virginia University.

AmritaCREATE is funded under the World Bank funded initiative ‘India: e-Delivery of Public Services DPL’, for its eGovernance Analytics Platform in collaboration with CDAC and Amrita School of Business. eGAP will lay the foundation for CBSE to become a world leader in implementation of ICT based governance of the entire teaching learning process. The Project is funded by The World Bank and DietY, Govt. of India.

Amrita Insulin Pump and Low-cost, Automated Biomedical Devices

Responding to India’s high incidence of diabetes, researchers at Amrita have designed an automated insulin pump, which was recently awarded a patent by the USPTO Patent No: US8,034,019 B2. Considering this, Amrita worked to develop a less expensive, but equally effective pump. The seamless integration of expertise from three Amrita campuses (Amritapuri, Coimbatore & Kochi) enabled the development of this user-friendly pump based on dual micro-controller technology, with features not found in other designs.
