The ICSRF 2025 Social Hackathon, held as part of the International Conference on Sustainable & Resilient Futures, invites interdisciplinary teams of students, technologists, researchers, and social innovators to design real-world solutions for rural sustainability and resilience. This is your chance to build something that matters—frugal, scalable, and socially impactful.

Tackle pressing grassroots challenges through creative technology, community engagement, and sustainable design.
Team Composition:

Problem Statements

Select one challenge from the following domains:

  1. AI/ML for Rural Groundwater Management
  2. Precision Agriculture Solution for Smallholder Farmers
  3. Rural Health & Wellbeing : A Personal Healthcare Management Solution
  4. AI/ML for Vector-Borne Disease Outbreak Prediction
  5. Visual AI Programming Tutor for Village Students
  6. Rural Community Waste Management Solution – Citizen Participation through Gamification
  7. Village Sustainability Index Tracker – Empowering Rural Citizens
Time Line

Round 1

First Round Submission (Deadline: 31st July 2025)

Teams must submit a High-Level Proposed Solution, including:

  • Problem Statement, that their solution will address, and contextual relevance
  • Understanding of the Problem in the rural/sustainability context
  • Proposed Solution Overview: The core idea, how it works, and how it addresses the problem
  • Design Approaches Considered and why the chosen approach is best
  • Initial Architecture or conceptual framework of the solution
  • Potential Impact and Scalability Considerations
  • Social and Environmental Value Proposition

Evaluation Criteria

  • Clarity and depth in problem understanding
  • Creativity and practicality of design approaches
  • Soundness of solution architecture
  • Early thinking on scalability, impact, and social innovation

Round 2

Final Round – Prototype Development

  • Shortlisted Teams from Phase 1 will be notified and invited to build a working prototype, along with detailed documentation.
  • Teams will have several weeks to refine, implement, and test their solution, with a strong focus on:
    • Frugality: low cost, minimal resource burden
    • Ease of Use and Maintenance
    • Suitability for low-income, rural communities
    • Scalability and adoption potential
