The 4th Amrita Anaesthesia Refresher Course 2017 (AARC), was conducted by the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, on 1st October, 2017, at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Sanjeev K. Singh, Medical Superintendent, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, was the chief guest of the event. Dr. Lakshmi Krishnakumar (Organising Chairperson), Head of the Department, Anaesthesiology, School of Medicine, Kochi, and Dr. Sindhu Balakrishnan (Organising Secretary), Associate Professor, Anaesthesiology, School of Medicine, Kochi, conducted the proceedings.
A speciality focused Continuing Medical Education (CME), Updates in Transplant Care (UTAC -2017) was held on 2nd October, 2017. This was the first transplant anaesthesia related CME conducted at Amrita Hospital. The top practising faculty in the field of liver transplant graced the proceedings and enlightened the audience on the current practice in transplant anaesthesia. Dr. Prem Kumar Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was the chief guest, Dr. (Col) Vishal Marwaha, Principal, School of Medicine, Kochi, and Dr. Puneet Dhar, HOD, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, addressed the delegates. Around 120 delegates participated in the conference.
The Department of Anaesthesia provides services to multiple specialities, reconstructive and faciomaxillary, orthopaedic and neurosurgery, gastrosurgical and other general specialities. It is part of the Amrita School of Medicine which trains more than 10 postgraduate students each year. Speciality training is also offered in transplant, neurosurgery, airway, paediatrics and critical care.
