Higher Education’s Role is Indispensable in Building a Developed India: Prof. T.G. Sitharam.
The need to increase literacy in the field of higher education is essential for India to become a developed nation by 2047, said Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). He was speaking as the chief guest at the second B. Tech. graduation ceremony held at the Chennai campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. He reminded the students that while the world is growing at a rapid pace, it is crucial to embrace changes, innovate continuously, and ensure skill development to stay ahead. The field of education cannot remain untouched by the unprecedented growth of technology. He pointed out that during the COVID-19 pandemic, India advanced to the point where identity verification could be done using just a person’s face for air travel. As the nation progresses in various sectors, the contribution of students who have received higher education cannot be overlooked.
“The world places its hope on the students,” said Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in her video message during the ceremony. She urged everyone not to miss the valuable opportunities to put their learning into practice and encouraged the students to think about what they can contribute to the world’s well-being, beyond their own personal needs.
Dr. Shankar Venugopal, Vice President of Mahindra & Mahindra, who was the guest of honour, advised the students to consider how they can apply the knowledge they have acquired through their studies.
Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, Treasurer of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, delivered benedictory address, reminding the students to express their gratitude to the Almighty by protecting nature, which provides everything necessary for their growth.
