The ACM-W India Council provides support for women undergraduate and graduate students in India in the fields of computer science and engineering and other related disciplines.
In 2010, the Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham hosted the first-ever ACM-W Celebration of Women in Computing Conference.
Now, Amrita is prominently represented in the newly constituted nine-member committee that will oversee the council’s activities in India.
Dr. Maneesha Sudheer, Director, Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications was elected as Secretary in the committee that has members from universities and labs in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Pune.
The industry is represented alongside academia through women scientists working at Intel Labs, IBM, Google and TCS.
This year, ACM-W will support 20 female students with annual scholarships that can be availed for international travel to participate in research conferences of their choice.
As Secretary of the ACM-W India Counil, Dr. Maneesha will maintain student records as well as organize periodic Council Meets.
“We want Indian students to interact with the best of research scholars and scientists world-wide. We also want to provide them opportunities where they can showcase their research in global platforms,” stated Dr. Maneesha.
Dr. Maneesha is well-versed with the best global platforms that showcase path-breaking research; research papers from her high-profile project with wireless sensors won best paper awards at international conferences and were published in top journals.
Dr. Maneesha was also recently appointed to the editorial board of Ad Hoc Networks Journal published by Elsevier.
The 48-member editorial board has only one representative from India – Dr. Maneesha of Amrita.
“The Ad Hoc Networks is an international journal publishing original research in ad hoc and sensor networking areas,” stated Dr. Maneesha.
As a member of the editorial board, she will review papers submitted and help decide whether the paper meets the strict guidelines of the journal.
Amrita congratulates Dr. Maneesha on both these appointments!
