Abstract : In order to automate a welding process, which is a present trend in fab rication industry, it is necessary to have a mathematical model that is to relate the process parameters. Because of high reliability, easiness in operation, high penetration good surface finish and high productivity gas metal arc weld ing (GMAW) became a natural choice for fabrication industries. This paper presents five level factorial techniques to predict four critical d imensions of bead geometry. The developed models have been checked for adequacy and significance. The bead geometry is predicted again using Simulated annealing Algorith m (SA).
