  • KaraChara is used in the rehabilitation and therapy of patients with paralysis due to stroke or spinal cord injury. The design consists of dual control mechanisms for the efficient operation of a Hand Orthosis device, which includes Electrooculogram (EOG) based control and Graphical User Interface (GUI) based control. Physiotherapists can train the patients at initial stages and patients themselves can start using without the need for Physiotherapists later. A patent has been filed for the same and is expected by the end of this year.

  • The objective of the work was to develop aluminum alloys containing lithium, copper, and zirconium for aerospace applications. Moderately thick deposits of binary and ternary alloys of aluminum with lithium, copper and zirconium were successfully electrodeposited. This was achieved at room temperature through the use of low cost ionic liquid containing AlCl3 and triethylammine hydrochloride (Et3NHCl).

  • Preliminary  studies  have  been  carried  out  using  flexible  laminates prepared  from  different  types  of  PET  films  and  UHMWPE (Dyneema)  fabric  using  polyurethane  based  adhesive.  Peel strength,  Lap  shear  strength  and  helium  leak  rate  of  the  samples were  studied.  The  effect  of  plasma  treatment  of  Dyneema  fabric  on the  adhesion  properties  was  analyzed.  Discussions  held  with  ISRO scientists  provided  focus  to  the  subsequent  studies.
