Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is proud to announce a significant scientific breakthrough from its Amrita Coconut Research and Development (ACORD) Center. Dr. Sakthiprasad K. M., Scientist, and Dr. Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, Head of ACORD, have successfully published a pioneering research paper introducing a novel mathematical model for coconut trees.
Titled “Coconut Tree Modeling based on Abiotic Factors and Modified Cosserat Rod Theory,” this groundbreaking work is published in the highly esteemed Springer Plant Methods (Q1 journal, Impact Factor: 5.6). This marks a major interdisciplinary achievement, blending biology and applied mechanics.
The innovative model is the first-ever mathematical framework for coconut trees to comprehensively integrate abiotic environmental factors with modified Cosserat rod theory. By integrating environmental influences (like light, wind, and gravity) with advanced mechanical principles, this tool allows for understanding and predicting coconut tree behavior.
This pioneering research holds immense potential for the future of agriculture, promising more efficient and resilient farming practices through precision agriculture, sustainable farming, and climate-resilient cultivation strategies.
