The Department of Mathematics also recognises the importance of higher education in Statistics, Data Analytics and Data Science for teaching, research and job opportunities in reputed educational institutions and also in conventional and software Industries. This has motivated the Department to introduce Two-Year MSc in Applied Statistics and Data Analytics from the academic year 2018-2019 and Five-Year Integrated MSc in Data Science from the academic year 2018-2019. In fact, these Programmes are designed for providing a strong foundation in the basics of Mathematics and Statistics, and consequently motivating them towards specializations for research/job in the Data Science field.
The Department has a team of highly qualified faculty members with research interests in recent and advanced fields of Analysis, Algebra, Differential Equations, Fluid Mechanics, Statistics, Six Sigma, Numerical Analysis, Number Theory, etc. The Department has organized several International and National Conferences with paper presentations and invited talks of high quality and has a good number of research papers published in refereed International and National Journals. The Department’s research activities are supported through extramural funds for various government agencies like National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Science and Technology DST, etc. Besides teaching and research activities, faculty spend quality time with the students in guiding them through their career prospects/job opportunities.
