Dr. Rahul Soman

Research Interest: Antiaromaticity, Crystallography, Defining Metabolic Pathways of Drugs, evelopment of fluorophores and theranostic agents, Photodynamic therapy, Porphyrinoid Chemistry


Dr. Rahul Soman joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics in December 2021. He completed his B. Pharmacy from National College of Pharmacy, Calicut in 2007 and his M. Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics) from The Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu . After B. Pharmacy he worked as a production pharmacist in Vysali Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. Cochin for one year. He was selected as government Pharmacist at ESIC Hospital Andheri, Mumbai. He obtained his PhD from National Institute of Technology Calicut under Dr. C. Arunkumar in the area of porphyrin chemistry.

After finishing PhD, he joined as a Postdoctoral fellow in P. K. Panda Research Lab, School of Chemistry, Hyderabad Central University. He received National Postdoctoral fellowship from SERB-Department of Science and Technology, towards the developing photodynamically active porphyrinoids. University Grand Commission awarded him; Dr. DS Kothari National Postdoctoral Fellowship for his research work on Development of Contracted Porphyrin Based Theranostic Agent Development at School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad.

He published 13 international journals and filed an Indian Patent on Theranostic applications of contracted porphyrins.
